AnnotationVolcano-sedimentary and granodiorite bedrock of the Čelina-Mokrsko gold district (Bohemian Massif) contains an elevated calcite and sulfide (arsenopyrite) content. The waters of the district reveal significant influence of calcite weathering. This plays main role in acid-buffering reactions in the regolith. High concentrations of As were detected in soils and waters of the district. Sorption/desorption of As to/from Fe oxyhydroxides is considered to be an important factor controlling its mobilization. Mass budgets of arsenic in soils of two small catchments under the study reveal that As can be accumulated or depleted in different areas of the ore district. Similar average contents of As in the bedrock and related soils, however, suggest that the long-term inputs and outputs of As in the soils at the Čelina-Mokrsko gold district are nearly balanced.
