AnnotationA continuation of our study dealing with the investigation of chemical equilibrium superposed on vapour–liquid equilibrium (VLE) in fluid systems is presented. A transesterification reaction, namely the ethanol + propyl ethanoate = propanol + ethyl ethanoate reaction has been selected as a model. The reaction must be homogeneously catalyzed (potassium tert-butoxide). New experimental data on the quaternary system and the four non-reacting constituent binary subsystems were determined isothermally at 75 oC in a recirculation equilibrium still. The quaternary data will be correlated by the NRTL equation, with use of known parameters for the non-reacting binaries.
