It is commonly assumed that to prevent relapse the level of minimal residual disease (MRD) should be as low as possible. We develop a robust and sensitive method for detection of the clonal immunoglobulin heavy-chain variable (IgV(H)) rearrangement in CLL and to introduce a highly sensitive and specific methodology for MRD monitoring in patients with CLL who undergo intensive treatment.
