Sixty-three streams, in the frontier region between Bavaria and Czech Republic, subject to different human impacts were investigated; basic hydrochemistry, 79 elements and some organic compounds (PAK, aromates, halogen-CH) were evaluated. A total number of 256 species of algae and cyanobacteria was registered with 35–40 species per site. By using multivariate methods, acidification proved to have the strongest influence on the composition of phytobenthos (29%), followed by industrial sewage (27%), domestic sewage (19%), agriculture (18%). Trafic influence to phytobenthos composition was insignificant. From the natural influences quality of bottom was the most prominent, then presence of fish and velocity of the stream. Algal growth potential declines in the following sequence: domestic sewage > agriculture > not-influenced > traffic > acidification.

Složení fytobentosu Šumavy a Bavorského lesa je nejvíce ovlivněno acidifikací, následuje znečistění komunálním odpadem a zemědělskou činností. Doprava nemá vliv na složení fytobentosu malých toků Šumavy.
