AnnotationThe swimbladder nematode Anguillicola papernai was investigated in longfin eels Anguilla mossambica in rivers in South Africa, where the prevalence was about 50%. The ultrastructure and the life cycle of this pathogenic parasite was studied. Its capability of reproducing in European eels and copepods was experimentally demostrated. Heliconema longissimum and Paraquimperia africana were additional nematodes parasitizing A. mossambica in South Africa.
