The aim of this study was to analyze how monoassociation of germ-free (GF) piglets with non-pathogenic E. coli affects glycoconjugate moieties - sialylated and fucosylated glycans of brush-borders along the small intestine. Colonization with E. coli O83 and O86 led to a) partially reduced alpha2,6- and alpha2,3-sialylation, predominantly in the ileum, b) an increased expression of both 1,6-fucosylated and 1,2-fucosylated moieties, the effect being seen in the ileum and the duodenum, respectively
