The simultaneous incorporation of a cathode lens (CL) and a detector of transmitted electrons (TE) allows to study ultrathin free-standing foils by transmitted electrons in the energy range between keV and units of eV. Experiments were performed on amorphous carbon and scandium foils a few nm thick and on graphene-like flakes. A high contrast was obtained that depended on the thickness and the structure of the foil.
