The study provides the so far most completed synthesis of knowledge of relationships among populations and species of all Western Palearctic tree frogs across the European continent – from Canary Islands and Morocco across Europe east- and southward as far as Iran and Yemen, respectively. All five recognized species have been found monophyletic using phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial and nuclear genes, although we found deep genetic divergences in several species, which indicate an existence of cryptic taxa. Segments of male advertisement calls have probably shortened during the tree frogs’ evolution, as we can infer from the phylogenetic reconstruction.

Studie předkládá doposud nejkompletnější syntézu poznání příbuzenských vztahů mezi populacemi a druhy všech západopalearktických rosniček přes celý evropský kontinent – od Kanárských ostrovů a Maroka přes celou Evropu až do Íránu a Jemenu. Všech pět uznávaných druhů bylo shledáno za pomocí fylogenetické analýzy mitochondriálních a jaderných genů monofyletickými, ačkoli u několika druhů byla zjištěna hluboká genetická divergence poukazující na existenci dalších kryptických taxonů. Na základě rekonstruované fylogeneze bylo poukázáno na pravděpodobné zkracování segmentů svolávacích hlasů samců rosniček v průběhu jejich evoluční historie.
