The swimbladder nematode Anguillicola papernai was investigated in longfin eels Anguilla mossambica in rivers in South Africa, where the prevalence was about 50%. The ultrastructure and the life cycle of this pathogenic parasite was studied. Its capability of reproducing in European eels and copepods was experimentally demostrated. Heliconema longissimum and Paraquimperia africana were additional nematodes parasitizing A. mossambica in South Africa.

V řekách Jižní Afriky byl studován výskyt hlístice Anguillicola papernai cizopasící v plovacím měchýři úhořů Anguilla mossambica (prevalence okolo 50%). Rovněž byla studována ultrastruktura a vývojový cyklus tohoto patogenního parazita. Experimentálně byla prokázána jeho schopnost reprodukce v evropských úhořích a buchankách. Dalšími hlísticemi cizopasícími v A. mossambica v Jižní Africe byly Heliconema longissimum a Paraquimperia africana.
