    Novel derivatives of pyrimidine inhibit production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and nitric oxide (NO). A tight dependence of the suppressive activities depend tightly on their chemical structure. No significant correlation between the extent of PGE2 and NO production has been observed. The NO-inhibitory potential of pyrimidines was stronger than that of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs aspirin and indomethacin. The PGE2-inhibitory activity was about the same as that of aspirin, but weaker as compared to indomethacin.
