    HMGB1 can modulate cellular activity of mammalian telomerase. Knockout of the HMGB1 gene in mouse embryonic fibroblasts results in chromosomal abnormalities, enhanced colocalization of gamma-H2AX foci at telomeres, and a moderate shortening of telomere lengths.
