AnnotationTwo commercially available montmorillonite clays ( Cloisite®-Na, Bentonite for water systems) were intercalated with a mixture of benzyalkyldimethylammonium chlorides based on the coconut oil (alkyl = C10 - C16 mainly). Results of XRD analyses indicated a dramatic increase of the basal spacing value (d001) of organically premodified Bentonite for water systems compared to the pure sodium montmorillonite. The structure of resulting intercalates is discussed with support of some IR, XRF, and thermal analyses measured data
