AnnotationResponse of long-period gratings (LPGs) inscribed with a CO2 laser in PIC fiber to changes of the external refractive index (ERI) were investigated. The PIC fiber has a uniform outer cladding and an inner cladding where the RI decreases quadratically with radius. An analysis was made predicting that LPGs using coupling to low-order cladding modes are highly insensitive to the ERI.
