Biorefining can be seen as an analogy to existing and widely operated refining processes for non-renewable fossil fuels. The advantage of biorefining compared to crude oil refining stems froma greater variety of raw materials, while the disadvantage is a number of process steps which need to be applied to the biorefining product, which prolongs the development of biotechnologies. Thanks to this, biorefining is really a challenge for science and sustainable development.
