The Czech folklorist, ethnologist and literary scholar created and published his work for former Czechoslovakia. He was one of the figures of Czechoslovak folklore, who were recognized authorities at international level even at the time of political isolation. In particular, he devoted himself to comparative folkloristic studies, developments and the current state of folk literature and the interrelationships of oral and literature.
