AnnotationThis paper focuses on the public representation of Polish dissident and former president Lech Wałęsa - or conspicuous lack of it. It first examines Wałęsa's image in the press of Communist Czechoslovakia in the context of general lack of information about Polish uprising and the Solidarity movement. The author then focuses on Wałęsa's absence from the post-Communist discourse, salient in the context of popularity of Czech dissidents in the other countries of the Eastern bloc.
