In this paper I will focus on one specific way to solve and cope with crises of identity caused by a radically new living situation. I will follow a group of Czech Protestants who came from Central Europe to the very south-eastern border of the Hapsburg monarchy (currently Voivodina, southern Banat) in the 19th century. I will introduce strategies and mechanisms of adaptation of migrants which they chose in order to cope with the new (emergency) situation and uncertainty. In general, I will conceptualize this strategies as a culture of coping, which is based on trying to overcome the discontinuity with restoration of the original social organization, structure and social network, which operated in the country of origin.
