AnnotationWe experimented with introduction of medical ontology and other background knowledge into the process of association mining. The inventory used consisted of the LISp-Miner tool, the UMLS ontology, the STULONG dataset on cardiovascular risk, and a set of simple qualitative rules. The experiment suggested that an ontology may bring benefits to all phases of the KDD cycle as described in CRISP-DM.
