This article outlines the theoretical background to the TM-71 crack gauge and illustrates its practical application through a number of case studies, where in some cases, continuous measurements span more than 30 years. These studies are drawn from a range of landslide types and stabilisation measures. The landslides displacements as small as 0.2 mm year−1 are discussed.
