    Istorik drevněrusskogo i vizantijskogo iskusstva N. L. Okunev (1885-1949) emigriroval v Korolevstvo SCHS vesnoj 1920 g. Po političeskim pričinam. S etogo momenta izučenije srednevekovogo iskusstva i architektury Serbii i Makedonii stanovitsja ego osnovnym zanjatiem. Pereechav v 1923 g. V Pragu, on prodolžal reguljarno poseščat Balkany. V odnoj iz svoich poezdok učeny poznakomilsja s častju rasčiščennogo ansamblja stenopisej v chrame sv. Sofii v Ochride i posvjatil emu samostojatelnuju rabotu. Opirajas´ na trudy svoich predšestvennikov N. P. Kondakova, G. Mille i dr., Okunev vnes suščestvennyj vklad v delo izučenija fresok ochridskogo Sofijskogo sobora. On vvel v naučnyj oborot neizvestnyj ranee cennyj pamjatnik, načal interpretaciju i atribuciju sochranivšichsja fragmentov rospisej, kotorye verno datiroval XI-XIV vv. Okunev podčerknul važnost´ issledovanija sostava i programmy rospisej Sofijskogo sobora, ukazal na vzaimosvjaz´ nastennych dekoracij sv. Sofii s cerkovju sv. Leontija v Vodoče. V oblasti stilističeskogo analiza živopisi russkij.

    The historian of old Russian and Byzantian art N.L.Okunev (1885–1949) emigrated to Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the spring of 1920 for the political reasons. Since this moment studying of medieval art and architecture of Serbia and Macedonia became his basic employment. After moving to Prague in 1923 he continued to visit the Balkans on a regular basis. During one of the expeditions the scientist got acquainted with a part of the cleaned ensemble of mural paintings in the St. Sophia cathedral church in Ohrid and devoted an independent work to it. Using the works of his predecessors: Kondakov N.P., Мille G., etc., Okunev brought the essential contribution to business of studying of frescos оf the St. Sophia cathedral church brought a valuable monument unknown earlier into a scientific turn, began interpretation of the kept fragments of wall-paintings which he truly had dated. Okunev emphasized importance of research of structure and the program of wall-paintings of the St. Sophia cathedral church, specified interrelation murals of the St. Sophia cathederal church with church of Leonthy in Vodoch. In the field of the stylistic analysis of painting the Russian scientist planned the lines of comparative studying used afterwards by his continuers.
