    AnnotationUltra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is used in arthroplasty as a key component of total joint replacements. In this study we introduce a new staining method that makes it possible to visualize the UHMWPE lamellae by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The method consists of one-step staining with oleum (H2SO4 solution of SO3) for 4 days and ultramicrotomy; this is significantly simpler than previously described techniques and yields micrographs of the same quality.
