    Iron displays brittle behavior on {100} type planes, consistent with long standing experimental and theoretical work. For our crack orientation (001)[110], the response can either be cleavage or cracking accompanied by twinning The crack size effect can be understood in terms of the T-stress: for uniaxial loading, short cracks are more susceptible to twinning behavior.
