The influence of an enhanced bromide intake on the body weight andprosperity of rats, and on the uptake of 131 I by the thyroid andvarious organs and tissues of the rats was studied. Besides thewell-known signs of hypothyroidism, caused by high amounts ofbromide, we have also confirmed the observation that bromidetoxicity is dependent upon the state of iodine supply (i.e., it ismuch more pronounced with iodine deficiency).
