The structure of chromosome territory was studied in chromosomes containing clusters of highly expressed genes (HSA 9, 17) and those without such clustres (HSA 8, 13). It was found that the structure of chromosome territory reflects the number and chromosome location of highly expressed genes and that the nuclear distnces betwen genetic elements are not directly proportional to their molecular distances. A simple model of the chromosome territory tructure is proposed.
