    A genetic regulatory system consisting of a gene and activator and repressor proteins is investigated. The repressor competes with the activator for binding to gene's responsive elements. The kinetic equations for rates of change of concentrations of the above species are represented using the technique of causal diagrams. Presence of positive and negative feedback loop is apparent in the diagram topology. The qualitative behaviour is controlled by the sun of transmission functions of the two loops.
