AnnotationPreparation of polymer/clay nanocomposites in intercalated and especially in exfoliated state is a important task for practice. With regard to decreasing nanofiller costs, the utilization of recycled polymers for nanocomposite preparation could be industrially attractive for both economical and ecological reasons In our work, a significant enhancement of properties of recycled PET by addition of commercially available organo-clays was achieved, despite a moderate degradation of the matrix. In an effort to obtain higher degree of delamination of silicate layers and to reduce degradation reactions, the three best suitable organo-clays were modified with [3-(glycidyloxy)propyl]trimethoxysilane, hexadecyltrimethoxysilane and (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane. The effect of modifiers on processability and end material properties was investigated by means of rheological, morphological and mechanical testing.
