With regard to decreasing nanofiller costs, the utilization of recycled polymers for nanocomposite preparation could be industrially attractive for both economical and ecological reasons In our work, a significant enhancement of properties of recycled PET by addition of commercially available organo-clays was achieved, despite a moderate degradation of the matrix. In an effort to obtain higher degree of delamination of silicate layers and to reduce degradation reactions, the three best suitable organo-clays were modified with [3-(glycidyloxy)propyl]trimethoxysilane, hexadecyltrimethoxysilane and (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane. The effect of modifiers on processability and end material properties was investigated by means of rheological, morphological and mechanical testing.
