Studie se věnuje zejména změnám, které Jaromír John prováděl mezi časopiseckým a pozdějšími knižními otisky knihy Rajský ostrov, pojednávající o idyle a dospívání v Praze v polovině 19. století. Román byl v pozdějších letech chápán jako četba pro děti a mládež, i když jeho otisk z konce třicátých let v časopisu Pestrý týden nebyl na dětské čtenáře zaměřený.

The study focuses on the changes, that Jaromír John made between the magazine and later book editions of „Rajský ostrov“, which deals with idyll and adolescence in Prague in the mid-19th century. In later years, the novel was understood as reading for children and young adults, although its edition from the late 30s in the magazine „Pestrý týden“ was not aimed at children's readers.
