The overall aim of this paper is to explore in some depth some ethical theories and principles that may be used in an attempt at regulating artificial intelligence. First, I present and describe two ethical theories - consequentialism and principlism, second, I discuss their potential as regulative normative theories within the realm of AI, and, third, I move on to consider autonomous vehicles as a case study, proposing a mixed two-level approach incorporating some important consequentialist and deontological insights.
