The Abusir pyramid field near modern-day Cairo is well-established in Old Kingdom archaeology as burial place of four kings of the Fifth Dynasty and many courtiers and officials. The discovery of a temple built by Ramesses II adds new chapter to the history and archaeology of the site. It brings to attention aspects of the sun cult during the New Kingdom that have so far been neglected.
