This work deals with the direct synthesis of undoped Cs2HfCl6 from starting CsCl and HfCl4 mixed in required ratio in quartz ampules and reacted in molten state under ambient pressure. The Cs2HfCl6 single crystals were grown by unseeded vertical Bridgman method. Prepared Cs2HfCl6 material as well as grown crystals were characterized using X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analyses to determine the purity, phase content, and thermal properties. The absorption, radioluminesnce, and photoluminescence spectra as well as decay measurements on prepared optical specimens were performed.
