We present preliminary results of our endeavours, within the EU FP7 HELCATS
(Heliospheric Cataloguing, Analysis and Techniques Service) project, to identify radio
observations by STEREO/Waves that are associated with CMEs identified in STEREO/HI
images and, thus, included in the HELCATS WP3 Catalogue. We have found that only about
10% of these CMEs were associated with interplanetary type II radio bursts. Moreover, very
few type II bursts were observed during the solar minimum. Our results indicate that fast
CMEs are more likely to produce interplanetary type II radio bursts. We also discuss
possibilities of improving forecasting CME arrivals to 1 AU using radio observations.
