Description in English The present invention relates to novel softened nitrocellulose coating compositions containing cellulose nitrate, resin a mixture of organic solvents and adjuvants, wherein the novel softened nitrocellulose coating compositions are characterized in that they contain as a softening component 0.05 to 0.3 percent by weight of methyl sulfate of a mixture of quaternary imidazole compounds, in which the cation is 2-(C17 and C-17-unsaturated alkyl)-1-[2-(C18 and C18-unsaturated amido)ethyl]-4,5-dihydro-3-metyl-imidazolium, whereby at least one of the two alkyl chains having 17 and 18 carbon atoms comprises a double bond.
