Voice training and therapy utilize phonation into tubes, the outer end either in the air or immersed in water. This study compares (1) flow resistance of resonance tube and lax vox tube when submerged 2 cm and 10 cm in water, and (2) phonation into resonance tube and lax vox tube with the outer end immersed 2 cm and 10 cm in water in a bowl. Flow resistance was slightly lower with lax vox tube than with resonance tube, and slightly lower for smaller immersion angles. Flow resistance was higher for lower flow values corresponding to soft phonation. The only significant difference was that contact quotient was somewhat lower for softer phonation into lax vox tube immersed 2 cm in water. It seems that the differences in length, material and inner diameter of resonance tube and lax vox tube have rather little effect on phonation. Due to the small number of subjects (three males and three females) the results are preliminary.
