This paper has two goals. Firstly, to present the GIS web portal of Prague historical cartography and iconography (http://towns.hiu.cas.cz), which is the digital version of the volumes of the Historic Towns Atlas of the Czech Republic dealing with Prague, that has been making available since 2010 maps, town plans and veduta of Prague preserved in various archives and map collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. At the background, there is a database aiming to list all the old maps and veduta of Prague. Cadastral maps are essential part of the portal, as well, especially the Stable Land Register. Secendly, regarding the topic of the conference, this study brings an outline of the development of land surveys of Bohemia, puts it into the context of other state – official (military) surveys, and illustrates it on the example of Prague-Smíchov.
