The probe is modified on its surface by a modification agent selected from the group consisting of mono-, di- and polysaccharides, poly(amino acid)s and polymers of (meth)acrylic acid derivatives, and form a colloid consisting of particles with narrow size distribution with polydispersity index lower than 1.3, the average size of which ranges from 10 to 30 nm, iron oxide content amounts to 70-99.9 wt.%, the modification agent content makes 0.1-30 wt.%. The probes can be used for labelling cells used in magnetic resonance imaging for monitoring their movement, localization, survival and differentiation especially in detection of pathologies with cell dysfunction and of tissue regeneration and also for labelling and monitoring cells administered for cell therapy purposes in the recipient organism by magnetic resonance.
