Annotation
The paper deals with the preparation and characterization of silica spherical microresonators for refractive-index detection. The microspheres were prepared by heating a silica fiber with a burner. Surface properties of the microresonators were modified by application of a thin porous polysiloxane layer on them using the sol-gel method. Resonance spectra of the microresonators were measured, their Q factors as high as 105 and the sensitivity to acetone determined.
