Here we report results from two flow tube experiments showing that nucleation occurs at ambient relevant [H2SO4] and RH in absence of measurable quantities of unwanted contaminants. Furthermore, we show that possible reason for the disagreement with earlier flow tube studies on nucleation of H2SO4 and water is connected to short residence times and improper performance of particle counters (Vanhanen et al., 2010) used in previous experiments.
