Novel approach to the synthesis of block copolymers contaiing polylactide and poly(amino acid) blocks is presented. Controlled living polymerization of amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides is used to build cell-adhesive RGD peptide sequences at the end of the poly(amino acid) block. Functional block copolymers can be used to control interactions of cells with surfaces of biodegradable polymer materials.
