Kniha představuje život a historické i rozsáhlé publicistické dílo Jaroslava Werstadta, včetně jeho úplné bibliografie. Ediční část obsahuje dosud nevydanou Werstadtovu polemiku s literárním historikem Arne Novákem, psanou v Buchenwaldu, a kromě dalšího výběr z rozsáhlé korespondence (Josef Pekař, Vladimír Klecanda, Huber Ripka, Josef Klik, Hana Benešová).

This monograph presents the life and work of historian and archivist Jaroslav Werstadt. One part of the book is verified and possibly complete bibliography of Werstadt. It also includes a section containing a hitherto unpublished key text “Dějiny osvobození a republiky v Arne Nováka ‘Přehledných dějinách české literatury’ z r. 1939 (4. vydání) [The history of the liberation and the Republic in Arne Novák’s Synoptic History of Czech Literature from 1939, 4th edition], which Werstadt wrote in Buchenwald in 1939. His extensive correspondence is represented by just a selection.
