AnnotationIt is well established that properties of materials can highly depend on polycrystalline microstructure. By thermodynamically incorporating the excess energetic costs of the extra interface into the free energy functional of a phase field model, we study grain size distributions to uncover the structure-functionality relationship and to explore the microstructural design space for resolving the strength-functionality dilemma.
