Aufgabe des vorliegenden Buches ist es vor allem, eine Serie von Modellbeispielen vorzustellen, die dokumentieren, auf welche Art und Weise die postmediävalen Städte Europas bzw. Mitteleuropas die Funktion von Knotenpunkten der Kommunikation erfüllten, und zwar unter Berücksichtigung relevanter Formen des Informationsflusses, die sich im 16.-18. Jahrhundert auf verschiedenen Ebenen direkt im urbanen Milieu abspielten oder damit anderweitig verbunden waren.

The task of our book is primarily to present a series of model examples (case studies) documenting in what way post-medieval (Central) European cities fulfilled the function of communication nodes, namely regarding the relevant forms of information flow, which in the 16th-18th centuries on various levels took place directly in the urban milieu or were otherwise immediately connected with it.
