The essay deals with the development of liberal constitutionalism in East Central Europe and in particular with the issue of sovereignty and nation state after the fall of communist dictatorships in 1989. In the light of Brexit and other possible „euxits” it tackles some of the paradoxes of the EU Eastern enlargement process, euroscepticsm both in the East and in the West esp. in Great Britain, and the recent populist backlash in the region.
