Hlavní idea ontologického důkazu není neplatná, avšak důkaz by k svému prokázání potřeboval vlastní pojem Boha a náhledy týkající se afirmativních analytických soudů. Člověk však nemá k dispozici ani jedno, ani druhé. Description in English According to Brentano, the question of the existence of God, of its nature, and of the immortality of the soul form the most valuable part of philosophy. An account of Brentano’s life shows that this view was firmly rooted in Brentano’s education in scholastic Aristotelism. The nature of God and the nature of reason in Aristotle’s work was an important topic of Brentano’s Aristotelian studies as well. Since Aristotle’s views concerning these issues are quite fragmentary, Brentano had to develop a set of rules for the correct interpretation of Aristotle. These rules stressed out philosophical competence as the main ingredient of proper Aristotelian studies. Given the value of theoretical questions concerning God, proofs of God’s existence were of imminent concern to Brentano. Concerning the ontological proof, Brentano used his interpretation of analytic judgments as negative judgments to claim that the ontological proof is a paralogism based on a wrong interpretation of its grammatical form. The main idea of the ontological proof is not invalid but the proof itself would require an authentic concept of God and an insight concerning affirmative analytical judgments, both of which are unattainable by human beings.
