The divertor of the COMPASS tokamak was recently equipped with a special toroidal section dubbed floating tile, which contains a radial array of 5 insulated segments. Two segments are located at the typical radial positions of strike points, two are covering the far scrape-off layer (SOL) on each target and the middle segment is located in the private flux region. Each tile is conductively connected to an electrical feed-through, allowing for an external control of the tile connections. Dedicated electronics allows to switch each segment between a grounded and floating state during a discharge, according to a request delivered by a triggering signal. When a segment is grounded, a shunt current is measured, while in the floating state the floating potential is acquired.
