Strupovitost hlíz brambor byla dříve považována za vadu "krásy", v současné době je to však vážný problém, a to proto, že omezuje možnost tržní úpravy hlíz. Hlízy jsou neprodejné, při zpracování brambor na výrobky se zvyšuje nárůst podílu odpadu, strupovitost narušuje klíčivost a vzcházivost sadby a zhoršuje se skladovatelnost hlíz, neboť se například může zvýšit výskyt měkké bakteriální hniloby.

Steady and strong incidence of common scab of potatoes was found at some locations in the Czech Republic. The greatest influence on the onset of the disease has location. pH plays a great role, together with the ratio of Ca:P and cation exchange capacity of the soil. An important measure in terms of scab infestation is choosing of cultivars with higher declared resistance to the scab. Experiments on different sites showed that the semi-early potato cultivars are susceptible to the attack more than early and medium late cultivars. It's probably done by the time of deployment and tuber formation of lenticels
