The paper analyses differences between authoritarian theories and critical theories of society. It specifies internal social criticism and external social criticism. It articulates a trichotomy “critique, explanation, normativity” as a base of a Critical Theory. The author specifies relations among individual parts of trichotomy in a discussion with other Critical Theorists, such as Axel Honneth, Nancy Fraser, Iris Marion Young etc.
