The presentation focuses on national auto- and heterostereotypes in five Central European countries. In our research, the five-factor model of personality was used as a framework for describing auto- and heterostereotypes of Czechs, Austrians, Germans, Slovaks, and Poles. Altogether, 5650 university students from the five countries rated a typical representative of their own and four neighboring countries on National Character Survey. In our study, we wanted to determine whether: 1) autostereotypes are stable in time; 2) heterostereotypes about neighboring nations correspond across nations under study; 3) national autostereotypes correspond with heterosterotypes. Results suggest that 1) national autostereotypes are stable in time; 2) heterostereotypes concerning respective neighboring nations converge across nations under study; 3) autostereotypes reflect heterostereotypes just in case of a typical German but no other typical country representative.
