Air-silica microstructure fibers with the optical core of pure silica were prepared in several steps by drawing arranged stacks of a central silica rod surrounded by silica capillaries. Effect of processing conditions of the fibers on their structural parameters such as the core diameter, hole shapes and dimensions, hole pitch and air filling fraction are discussed in the contribution. Results of measurements of the mechanical strenght and spectral attenuation curves of the fibers are also shown.
