Open heart surgery was found to be associated with blood phagocyte activation connected with increased production of free radicals, enhanced production of both pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and complement activation. Contribution of the circulating phagocytes to increased oxidative stress induced by open heart surgery was presented.

Během otevřených operací srdce byla indukována aktivace fagocytů spojená se zvýšenou produkcí volných radikálů, zvýšená produkce jak prozánětlivých, tak protizánětlivých cytokinů a aktivace komplementu. Bylo prokázáno, že cirkulující fagocyty přispívají k oxidativnímu stresu indukovaného otevřenými operacemi srdce.
