The study is based on both experimental high-speed visualization of a single bubble interacting with a single vortex-ring (Fig. 1a) and numerical simulations of the same problem. The design of experiment enables to control both the vortex-ring inertia and the bubble size [2]. The vortex-ring energy is evaluated from the velocity field obtained by PIV technique (Fig. 1b). 3D numerical simulations of chosen bubble – vortex-ring pairs are performed in OpenFOAM.
